Dr. Robert C. Kleiner, MD

Dr. Robert C. Kleiner, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon with expertise in managing complex retinal and vitreous diseases. As an Attending Surgeon at Wills Eye Hospital Retina Service and Chief of Ophthalmology at Lansdale Hospital, he brings decades of clinical excellence and leadership to his practice.

Unwavering Pursuit Of Clinical Excellence

Dr. Kleiner graduated Summa Cum Laude from Princeton University, earning induction into Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi—then completed his MD at Johns Hopkins University. He went on to an internal medicine internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, an ophthalmology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, a retinal diseases fellowship at the Wilmer Institute (Heed Fellowship Award), and a surgical retina fellowship at Emory University (Heed Knapp Fellowship Award).

Dr. Kleiner is currently an Attending Surgeon of the Wills Eye Retina Service, Associate Surgeon at the Wills Eye Main Line Surgical Center, and Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at Lansdale Hospital.

A Leader In Vitreo-Retina Care

Dr. Kleiner’s honors include that National Honor Society scholarship; Princeton distinctions (Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi); Johns Hopkins accolades (Alpha Omega Alpha, Mosby Award); and the Robert B. Shoemaker Research Award from the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology. He has authored numerous publications and book chapters, first described several new retinal syndromes, and holds membership in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Retina Society, Macula Society, and Associated Society of Retina Surgeons. He served as President of the Philadelphia Ophthalmic Club and has been named a “Top Doctor” by Main Line Magazine.

When not engaged in medical activities, Dr. Kleiner is an avid fly fisherman and wingshooter as well as a competitive sailor, award winning photographer and classical pianist.
